Your Size Range Comes First
An elasticated waist doesn't mean the size spec takes care of itself. It doesn't.
For this style we need two numbers, not one: the relaxed waist and the extended waist. Treat the skirt as one-size-fits-all and you'll get samples that fit nobody properly. The elastic gives, sure — but only within the range you actually specify.
Already got a size chart for your brand? Good — send it and we'll work from that. Just make sure the hip measurement is in there, and where the skirt is supposed to sit. That smooth upper front panel needs enough room before the gathers start, otherwise it pulls. Buyers notice that.
This viscose satin maxi skirt also looks different at the waist front and back — that's intentional, but it needs talking through during development. How much of the waistband stays flat at the front, and how the back elastic behaves with your measurements... those are the two things we'd settle on the fitting sample, not over email.
And when the sample arrives, don't just check the waist. Check the opening too. A waist measurement can feel perfectly comfortable and the garment still won't pass over the hips the way you pictured. The sample's there for exactly that — put it on, sit down, walk around, then judge.

Keep the Tier Lines in Proportion
Shorten the skirt and you don't just change the hem — every horizontal seam moves with it. So if you need a shorter version, tell us which way you want to go: keep the tier arrangement as it is, or adjust the depth of individual sections. Both work. They just don't look the same.
Don't treat those horizontal joins as separate decisions, either. Touch one section's depth and every seam below it shifts on the finished skirt. That's the bit people forget.
Now grading. On a tiered maxi skirt with elastic waist, you can't just add width at the side seams and call it done. The upper panel, the gathered sections, the elastic length — all three have to work together across every size you're ordering. Change one without the others and the silhouette breaks somewhere around the hip.
Our pattern and sample work can deal with all of this before bulk cutting starts. Wherever a measurement changes, the adjoining sections get another look — so a wider size doesn't quietly lose the gathering you approved in the reference.
One last thing. Mark clearly whether your measurements describe the body or the finished garment. Mix those two up and you end up with different expectations for the waist, the hip allowance and the skirt length — all at once, usually discovered at fitting.
Before Bulk Cutting
MRL Apparel is a private label skirt manufacturer with its own sample room for development — so the measurements and construction details you lock in become the starting point for that work. The clearer they are, the faster the sampling goes.
Approving the sample proportions isn't the finish line, though. Before we cut bulk, we still need the full quantity breakdown by size and colour. And if anything changes after that approval — skirt length, waist construction, how full the tiers run — bring it up before cutting starts. After the fabric's on the table, it's a different conversation.
Separate lengths can be discussed as order variants. Each needs its own finished measurements and quantity breakdown so that material requirements, pricing and production arrangements can be assessed.
No — it's 100% viscose satin. The reference fabric never contained silk, and we'd rather tell you that now than have the discussion later. That said, if your collection needs a different fibre composition altogether, material sourcing is something we can look at as a separate conversation.
Yes, customer and third-party inspections are supported. Please provide the inspection requirements and planned timing in advance so the approved sample, size specifications and agreed tolerances are available for the check.
